The Wordy WizardWelcome to my lair, young speller!
The Wordy Wizard is a free spelling game for elementary school children. A grown-up types in the week's spelling words, or uploads them from a CSV file, and the wizard turns them into games in his spellbook. Every word is read aloud in a clear voice, so children hear each word as they practise it.
The book opens with The Wizard's Tale, a short story written from the week's words that lights up each word as it's read. Then come Dragon's Hoard, Save the Squire, Potion Mix-Up, Broken Castle Wall, The Town Crier, The Jester's Tricks, The Joust, Forge the Sword, Gem Mine, Shield Match, Stable Sort, The Royal Court, Feed the Baby Dragon, Drawbridge Dash and The Royal Map, a crossword where each word is a road between villages.
Teachers can enter the words once and share a 4-digit classroom code. Children tap Join my class, type the code, and every game uses the class's words. Each time the teacher saves a new list, the class gets it.
The Wordy Wizard is free, with no ads, accounts or sign-up. It runs in any web browser on computers, Chromebooks, iPads and tablets. Word lists and progress are saved on your own device. Tap Grown-ups in the castle to add this week's words.
